We will begin by entering the tropical rainforests of the Ko’olau mountains for brightly colored forest birds, like the endemic Oahu Amakihi. Afterwards we will transcend down into the lush, green valleys and hike in search of the endangered Oahu Elepaio.

“We birded the whole island, changing from forest birds to sea birds. It was a great tour and really nice to get out of the city. I was able to see plenty of species too! Highly recommend!”

Water, snacks, mosquito repellent, online checklists, transportation to and from Waikiki, the use of binoculars if needed, and fun! Guests coming from outside of Waikiki can easily meet us in Ala Moana. Scopes generally don’t work well, as small endemic forest birds tend to move quickly throughout the canopy.
You must be prepared to hike 1-3 miles of uneven, muddy moderate trails for Oahu Elepaio.
Lightweight long pants, hiking shoes, camera, binoculars, sun protection and a lightweight raincoat, as the trail difficulty is not challenging but conditions may be wet and slippery. You might also want to consider a lightweight long sleeve shirt, as the mosquitoes can be bad in the valleys where the Oahu Elepaio are found.
